  • The Problem of Corruption in Peacemaking
Sami Jamil commented on the article | almost 3 years ago

Sad but true, the continued Occupation and the on going " peace process" which is going NO where created a certain class of beneficiaries and self serving organizations, both Israelis and Palestinians who will for sure go out of business if there is real peace and occupation end. I am aware of many organizations and top personalities whose made a very good living out of the conflict, without ever solving it and made it a career and a forum for their own self serving shops or as we say in Arabic" dakakeen alsalam". Ending the Occupation should be the top priority of this site and all other organizations who truly believe in peace. There is simply no peace with the Occupation. Since AIPAC and its supporters have a forum here to support Israel and its wars on Palestinians can we have equal forum and promote END the OCCUPATION NOW. Ending the Occupation should not offend any one, or should it?

Charles.. since this forum is now open to AIPAC can we on the other side give organizations like US Campaign to End the Occupation a forum www.endoccupation.org. I think this is only fair. If AIPAC and its supporters have a forum on this site, then Palestinian or Arab organization working toward ending the Israeli Occupation should have access to this site and should promote their ideas as well.

This is great and we need more cooperation, however, I think the priority should be on bringing an end to the Israeli and Settlers Occupation of the West Bank, shared and open Jerusalem for all, and of course the lifting of siege on Gaza with open access to sea and air without Egypt and without Israel. Anything short of ending the Occupation will not do. Israel on its own will never end the Occupation, the Palestinians on their own are unable to even remove one single checkpoints or stop the demolition of one house. There must be international commitment packed by the US that demand the ending of the Israeli Occupation of the areas occupied in 67. All the rest can be worked out in negotiations brokered by honest broker and not as in the past, in partner with the Occupation. As for Zionism, I have my opinion, others have their own and there are other important issues to discuss and share that does not focus on "Zionism" , and let us also not focus on "Palestinian Terror". I am sure there are lots of positive things we can focus on, and build bridges. I do not think that Michael and I can reconcile our opinion on "Zionism" and "Palestinian Terror" so we just leave it at that.

  • Is the Left Dead in Israel?

For all those who in America who always finds excuses and justifications for Israeli actions read this from today's Haaretz " Israel Defense Forces investigations into last month's offensive in the Gaza Strip indicate the army could face significant difficulties justifying the scale of destruction of civilian homes during the fighting. A military source involved in the investigation told Haaretz, "It's clear to us that in a small portion of the combat sectors immeasurable damage was caused, and that is very difficult to justify from a legal perspective, particularly if such justifications are called for in legal proceedings with international organizations." What I said stand true. Only in Israell can any one can criticise and speak out on the brutality of Israel. No one dare say anything in the US, not in the NY Times, not in the Washington Post, not on CNN, not on NPR, certainly not on Fox News. Oh I forgot, Haaretz is a "leftist" anti-Israeli paper?

National Socialists ( Nazis) thought they are liberating their country from the evils of Jews and they went about to destroy any thing and everything Jewish. Apartheid South Africans, also thought and believed that they are superior to Blacks and as such should have privilegelife casting Blacks as second class citizens. In America and for over two centuries racist Whites thought they are superior to Blacks and that Blacks do not rise to the level of equal citizens and with equal rights.Communists thought they are representative of the proletariat and as such all other classes have no place in a communist system. If Zionism limited itself to "liberating the Jews" and did not go about destroying the Palestinian community that would have been right.. It is when an ideology such as Zionism that make it a point to destroy and uproot another community and even deny their existence ( a people without a country for a country without people" makes Zionism an evil force and ideology. I guess we have to simply disagree on the issue of Zionism, since we could reconcile our differences. One could never reconcile themselves with Racism, Communism, Fascism, Zionism and Jihadism ( as defined by Alqaeda) or Apartheid. Zionism believe that Jews are superior to Palestinians and that Jews have every right to dispossess and exiles Palestinians outside of Palestine. My conclusions are based on writing and literature of Zionist writers and philosophers... look at Lieberman as one small example... there are millions of Jews around the world who believed the same..Salam and Shalom.

"We are all born, all of us, specifically- not as human beings but as Chinese, Blacks, Jews, Arabs."... Vlasta.. I disagree, I think we are born human being first, and then we put ourselves in different categories for many obvious reasons. If you ask any one, perhaps with the exception of Jews like you, they will tell you they are human being first, and this belonging making us all equal in the eyes of natural laws and certainly in the eyes of God. You will also find this reference to us being Human Beings first in our American Constitution, without reference to us being Whites, Blacks, Jews and Gentiles. I am sure that our God does not see the Chinese different than He/She sees Jews and Arabs or Africans. On the issue of freedom of press and thoughts, yes, I think that only in Israel, there is freedom to debate issues of Zionism, racism, occupation, targeted assassinations, confiscations of lands and properties, death in Gaza . I always admired the Israeli press and journalists for the courage to speak out on issues related to Israel and its policies and behaviors. I guess these journalists are not affraid being labeled Anti-Semitic and do not fear for losing their jobs, trashed in the media and in public, and are not afraid being labeled "self hating Jews" because they chose to be Israeli Jews. Too bad in the West and especially in the US there is simply NO room to debate or discuss or disagree on issues related to Israel and Zionism without one being labeled Anti-Semitic, and full of hate like I have been accused of here on this site. However I think that in due time we in America will be able to declare our Second Independence Day.. this time not from the British, but from Zionism and we will be able to speak out on issues such as Zionism. Fascism, Racisms Ismlamophobia, and Jihadism. Never understood why we can debate any thing on earth including G-d/God/Allah and not be afaird, and we could not debate Zionism without accusations of Anti-Semitism and hate? Does our First Amendement rights to freedom of speech stop at Z..ionism.

Vlasta. Salam. I do not see you talk about the high birthrate of Hassidic Jews and how this is a problem for Israel. Of course when 400,000 Jewish settlers take over some 40% of the land leaving some 3,500,000 million Palestinians in 60% of the land then you understandwhy their is dense population. Perhaps if Israel stops stealing and confiscating more and more Palestinian land and stop destroy farms and uprooting trees, then these poor illiterate and oversexed and over productive people can live on without relying on charity.Your arguments on population has noting to do with economic development but of fear that there are simply too many Palestinians for Jewish comfort. On the issue of Zionism, I guess we have to disagree. I think that Zionism is racism and is an evil force in today's world and have no place in 21st century. Well, that is my opinion, you and the others have yours of course. Israel will always have a solution for too many Palestinians, and Gaza is one example.

Vlasta wrote: "However, the extremely high birth rate of Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank presents a real challenge to anybody who wants to have a viable Palestinian state" , I wonder what solution you have in mind, there are the Chinese model of one child. Then there is the castration of men and hysterectomy for women. Now the Palestinians are being told what to do with their sex life. Vlasta is for their own economic benefits or this for the benefits of Jewish demographic superiority? Surprised that someone who is well educated even raise this issue. Keeping in mind, Israel with one year was able to bring in one million Russian Jews and no one raised the issue of the viability of the Jewish state, but increased population does raise a concern. But then there is always another war that Israel can wage against Palestinian children to control the grow rate and make the Palestinian state viable.

Salam/Shalom to every one. For reasons unknown to me, my account was deleted and I was locked out of the site. Perhaps it was a technical glitch, I am sure it was not might over right. Always enjoyed the discussions even with those I strongly disagree with. I had to sign in using a different email account. I am now trying to find out what happened and why I was locked out? All the best to every one.
