Beautifully written.  This piece has my vote for the best write up on the 00s to date!  To be a part of this movement is inspiring. To realize that the social and environmental hangovers of the 20th century and the 00s demand a new context of organization, capitalization, and innovation, is for me; nothing short of the greatest opportunity I've been exposed to in my life.  You have my vote Nathaniel, let's dedicate the next ten years to re-written the book.

If there is anything I've learned in the excitement of early stage ventures, is that sometimes balance is out of the question. A year ago my friends and I used to day dream about living a more balanced lifestyle, one where we had 8 hours of play, 8 hours of work, and 8 hours of sleep a day.  But now, on some levels I am unconvinced.  What if the ventures we are working on are our play?  And not because of money, or prestige, but rather because of purpose and excitement in the idea in and of itself?  Working 16 hour days becomes playing for 16 hours a day, and that to me is beautiful.

    Great posting Nathaniel!

Good Day Nathaniel. I think that you are onto something great and it is exactly the type of organization that a few of us out of the University of Colorado are currently working to launch on September 1st. In the summer of 2010 we will launch our first annual summer institute which will bring together 20 young social entrepreneurs from around the world for an 8 week intensive incubation center focused on incubating and finding the seed capital for sustainable (revenue covers costs), scalable, and replicable social enterprises. Feel free to drop me a line at anytime. daniel@ISEinstitute.org
