For further clarification Tim. No politicians or former politicians should be on the ECONOMIC INDEPENDENT HEALTH REFORM COMMISSION. Congress needs help and there fore the commission should function outside their reach. The commission I suggested should be akin to the I.S.G. in its muscle and importance and not co chaired by former or current members of any administration.
Mainly, economists can provide the facts and over view of what works and doesn't work, leaving politics out of its investigation and research.

Thank you Tim for this important post. You got it right. The only missing statement is that this independent ECONOMIC Health Reform Commission be made up of such Nobel Laureates as Joseph Stiglitz, Paul Krugman , along with Jeff Madrick and other economists of world stnding. Also on this commission such public health and policy people like a Dr. Walter Tsou, a former Health Commissioner in Phila. Indeed Krugmand and Stiglitz can put together the world class commisssion needed to do the job. This iissue is bgigger than the one that produced the I.S.G. as our 300 million Citizens deserve nothing less and are impacted more profoundly. It is the ECONOMISTS that must enter the debate and formulate the plan for true reform.
Not only would the commission look at the successes of several nations with National Health Assurance but this commission would look at our own Medicare, long an inspiration for nations abroad, including Taiwan who modeled its national health system using our own Medicare as a template.
Thanks for the mention Tim and keep up your great advocacy for better health for one and all.
