I don't think this post is correct. The threat of a general strike is not related to the symposium at all. The general strike is being threatened as a protest against the fear that the maoists would not be included in writing the new constitution. If the strike were to occur, it would create a lot of unrest around the same time that the symposium was supposed to have been held and the international spnsors pulled out. And remember, it was the Maoist appointed court in Nepal that ordered the legalisation of marriage in the first place. It looks extremely likely that same sex marriage will be included in the new constitution.
