I have a 6 year old son with cerebral palsy who is physically disabled, but I discribe myself as part of a large "special needs family" which is how I refer to all of our community as a whole: CP, Autism, Downs, ADHD, Muscular Dystrophy, and all other children who are "different" or challenged.
Personally, I like "special needs" and "physically challenged" over "disabled". I think the word "disabled" is a more negative word and while it may describe the individual, it does not describe our communtiy as a whole.
