"The KKK demonstrators accused the students of being part of a "Latino invasion," arguing that "God put each race in their respective continent and they were meant to stay there."
So to me that says that we ( I am white, Scots-Irish) should have stayed in Europe right?

You still evade the questions and now have the temerity to accuse Sara of trolling. Give me a break. This thread has been inactive since July until Sara asked a perfectly legitimate question seeking information and trying to help someone. Yet you can offer no better argument than to accuse her of trolling. Your argument is no more valid now than it was in July. Please, spend a little time researching this issue before taking a position as you clearly have little knowledge of the real consequences of a felony conviction to the offender or to the tax payer who foots the bill. We can pay for reform, education, re-entry programs, etc. or keep building prisons and expanding a failed system. Hey, it's your money too and, if memory from long ago serves, being a soldier is not exactly the best paid occupation on the planet.
She asked a good question and I gave her an answer
and fallowed up with my opinion on the restoration of the privilege to vote.
She made a statement that I know to be untrue. If she proves me wrong I will of course retract and apologize
as to your snide comment about best paid occupation, well two things, it is not normally about the money, and I live fairly well.

in others words, sight your source, I am in the military now and know that we would not take someone like this.
As for his ‘uncle' setting him up, again he made the choice to sell then. Failure to rake responsibility than, making the wrong choice then has put him in the position he is in now.

Martha Stewart knew better because she was a stockbroker before she was the ‘home cooking and decoration guru. She knew what she was doing was wrong and chose to do it regardless.
You did not know that about her did you.
I do not think it is unjust. Life is about choices, he could have made the choice to join the army when he was 18 and not been busted for selling drugs. See choices, serve your country with honor, or at least not dishonor yourself or sell drugs.
Do you know with a federal conviction regardless of race he is now considered a minority and can receive a minority grant to start a business? That is your tax dollars he can be given to start a business. Can you get a minority grant to start a business? Can you get a no interest loan to make sure it does not fail? So, convicted felon, no one will hire because of that the government provides at Your expense a way for him to start a business, be his own boss because it is the right thing to do so he does not have to resort to criminal behavior to feed himself.
Would you hire him if his job were to keep track of large amounts of money or merchandise?

The point is that if someone commits a felony losing the privilege (Privilege not right) to vote is part of the punishment. It is still part of ‘doing their time’

I am serving in the military now and have for the last 22 years.
First, we do not take Murders and Rapists.
As to his problem. The first best course would be to see if the governor of the state he was convicted in would expunge his record. Second, if you have not already talked to a recruiter see what they have to say.
Felony distribution is not something we would waver normally.
We may be products of our environment, but ultimately we are responsible for who we become and our own actions.
As to restoring voting rights, no, I think not. The tired adage of, ‘I have done my time' misses the point.

Hireling an illegal alien is even worse because most of the scum that hire them take advantage at levels bordering on slavery
