The people posting against nuclear power in this thread obviously know very little about the actual science behind it. If there was a spill (which is very unlikely; reactors are more stable than you'd think), it would not affect more than a small area around the reactor. Everyone cites Chernobyl, but even Chernobyl isn't completely desolate, and the technology around it was ancient.
Regardless, the only real issue around nuclear power is the waste issue. If that could be resolved in a reasonable solution, then nuclear power would be a great option. Even without it, it's a better idea than oil or coal.
