Tacked to my wall is Horace Mann's famous 1865 quote: "Be ashamed to die before you have won some victory for humanity." And so I keep active in the Peace and Social Justice Movement: opposing war, educating myself and others about government decisions which promote foreign and economic policies of aggression and domination, a corporate media idolizing the rich while demonizing the working masses and poor, all the while bringing to light issues and facts ignored by the corporate media. As an educator in NYC for 34 years, I taught my students to look behind the headlines, do independent research, and when discovering inaccuracies and untruths, actively challenge them by every means available, whether letter-writing, documentary films, speaking out at community forums, or marching in protest actions around the country. Educate against war, greed, racism and alienation, organize for peace, fairness, social responsibility and resistance to injustices. What a World that Would Be!
