Much of the pine bark beetle infestation can be attributed to poor forestry practices. Monoculture pine tree farms now replace our once diverse hardwood forests, compromising the natural barriers to single species attacks.
Similar issues exist in the field of agriculture. Large corporate farms, unclean and disease ridden, coupled with factory produced food, are replacing the healthy, natural foods produced on the family farms.
To solve these problems requires completely different paradigms in food production and distribution. Hint #1: go local!
