As a retired VP, Executive & Employee Communications for a Fortune 100 company, If DynCorp wants to attract the "best and brightest" employees, a non-discrimination policy is imperative. Non-discrimination policies are critical when recruiting prospective employees who happen to be LGBT. Such policies also serve as a keystone of corporate culture when it comes to attracting top talent who want to work in an open, inclusive environment that welcomes diversity of thought, new approaches to problem solving, product design and production, supply chain, etc., etc. The best employees don’t have to work for corps based on antiquated workplace policies. For a corp not to include sexual orientation in its non-discrimination policy is the equivalent of shouting, “Don’t work here!! We’re not going to listen to new ideas, no matter how much those ideas might contribute to the bottom line and your career growth.” The best employees always has options available and salary is only part of the "rewards package” they can demand.
Because Verizon told me several years ago, I'd pay a premium for receiving paper statements and paying via a paper check. So now I do it online. If they're going to charge for that now, too, I'll go back to paper everything. Why? Because they cannot automate paper handling and will have to hire people (e.g., create jobs) to handle old-fashioned paper payments. OR ... I'll go to a Verizon Store and pay in cash ... lots of nickles and dimes so they get the point.
I believe "religious freedom" was THE reason European pilgrims came to North America and started a new country. American citizens cannot pick and choose what provisions of our founding documents they'll abide by. Similarly, Christians may not pick and choose which of God's laws to obey or not ... although contemporary "Christians of Convenience" -- so aptly represented by the Florida Family Assoc. -- seem to have made such behavior into a new "interpretive religion" based on personal preference and avoiding hardships imposed by their religion.
No more Lowe's for me. Too bad ... Home Depot is whole mile further from home.
