Very interesting, and tragic. I'm reading quite a bit about Stalin over my winter break (morbid, I know!) and am continually amazed at how little we learn, in U.S. schools, about Stalin's crimes. Reminders of the price of ignoring murderous regimes, like this one, reinforce the need to accurately teach history.
This is authentically awesome! Your analysis of the dangers of the "collect your gold coins and save the world" mentality is spot-on, but outweighed, I think, by the potential to reach new audiences. Very exciting; the challenge will be for social causes to "get" this, when we haven't often been very good at crossing such boundaries.
At least we'll have the Daily Show montage of his horribly racist and deliberately misleading years of anti-immigrant rhetoric to look forward to!
Definitely accomplishments of which to be proud--I, too, especially love number 3. As a social work educator, I love this example of how to use social media to literally change the conversation about pressing social problems!
