My name is Dan. I am a student at UMass Amherst. I have been involved in grassroots organizing for close to eight years. I believe strongly in the power of the grassroots. Frederick Douglass said it over 150 years ago and it is still as true as ever: "Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will."
I am currently working as an organizer with Justice for Jason, a local campaign calling for the outright dismissal of charges against Jason Vassell, a former student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst who is facing two Class-A felonies (and up to thirty years in prison!) for defending himself in the face of a racist hate crime.
