I was personally surprised that the number of teacher dropouts is so low, and I think that Tracie's comment explains it. Many teachers that don't leave aren't really in the game any more.
And moving to administration is not a real solution. It may solve the money problem, but I've personally had plenty of administrators who are out of touch with the classroom either because they never were in it, or because they saw admin as a way to increase earning power without changing fields. Which brings me back to my point that there's really nowhere to go with a degree in education.
Some of these comments are quite disheartning even if not at all surprising. I wish more teachers would tell the truth online about the situation. Maybe something would change. Many teacher bloggers are using their blogs to try and advance professionally, or are watched by administration and are afraid to lose their jobs.
What is happening in the schools is everyone's business, and I seriously wish more teachers would be honest. More students and parents, too.
Thanks for the honest comments, everyone!
