We use "online" to make payment as instantaneous as possible - frankly to avoid claims by the provider/s that payment was late or not timely enough to be posted promptly enough to avoid late fees. Gee, I wonder what Verizon is up to? Ans. they are acting to get some extra money from us. This is why we must have better consumer protections - you remember - the ones the Republican administrations since Reagan and company pushed through Congresses for the past 30 years in the name of "deregulation."
