The prevention of cruelty to animals act has needed to be rewritten for many many years. Animals are not property, they are ADOPTED by people and in turn enrich our lives. People don't own breathing feeling beings. We would never say "I adopted a child and therefore I own them" so why do people say they own animals? It is such a disgusting shame that people are abusing beautiful animals who only look to us for love, companionship, food, clean water everyday, and care.
I do understand that shelters need money to operate. I fully believe that the provincial and federal governments should step up and give grants each and every year to animal shelters so that all shelters can become "no kill and for every animal a loving home". I would have no problems with 100% my tax dollars going towards helping animals (including wild). I would prefer that over my tax dollars being WASTED on some of the useless other things the governments often does spend money on.
