A-List has become a guilty pleasure (it's so bad, with z-list fauxlebrities). As a native Texan, who came out in Dallas in the mid-80's, I've been anxiously awaiting A-List Dallas...sadly, NOT with the episode of Coulter, whose hate speech towards the GLBT community should not be endorsed by "OUR" network. Simply having her appear on this show is a disgrace. I *won't* be watching that episode, should it air.
@ suzu:
thanks for the input...that's the curse of this site...i would normally italicize the words i put in caps for emphasis...not meant as "yelling" in this case, but they *were* intended to have greater emphasis, so IMHO, the caps were justified.
@ lori:
you are *mostly* correct. jesus IS discussed in the qur'an:
http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/quran-jesus.html
'O Mary, be obedient to thy Lord and prostrate thyself and worship the one God with those who worship HIM.'
This is of the tidings of things unseen which WE reveal to thee. And thou was not with them when they cast their arrows, as to which of them should be the guardian of Mary, nor was thou with them when they disputed with one another.
When the angels said, 'O Mary, ALLAH gives thee glad tidings of a son through a word from HIM; his name shall be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honoured in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God;
'And he shall speak to the people in the cradle, and when of middle age, and he shall be of the righteous.
She said, 'My Lord, how shall I have a son, when no man has touched me? He said, 'Such is the way of ALLAH. HE creates what HE pleases. When HE decrees a thing HE says to it 'Be,' and it is;"—Qur'an, Surah 3:38-48
(see the link for the full passage...the link also discusses Jesus' death and resurrection that is chronicled IN THE QUR'AN).
Pt 2 (conclusion):
there is a reason that the Bible is called the "LIVING WORD". think about it. what was relevant and crucial to 1st century Christians has very little to do with the practicality of 21st century life or Christianity! GOD GAVE US MINDS to use and souls to discern. HE (in my opinion) doesn't expect us to cling to social biases and out-and-out scientifically disproved bigotry (again, GOD gave those scientists the tools to determine that, for instance, being gay is "hard wired" not "choice") of things written 2000 years ago.
all this said, it doesn't mean that the basic principals aren't TIMELESS: love your neighbor as yourself. love the Lord your God with all your heart, etc. HOWEVER, i think that God is REALLY disappointed in us when we continue to use "selective enforcement" of scriptures that don't have jack diddly squat to do with the basic principals of Christianity to justify bigotry based on race, gender or sexuality.
finally, these are MY opinions and MINE only. i would never be so presumptuous as to try to foist MY beliefs on anyone. i hold these beliefs based on a lifetime "in the Church" with some bumpy times coming to a deeper understanding of the Word. i think (again, my opinion! LOL) that it's important to study and discern ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS what is right and wrong for YOU (the collective "you", not you specifically) based on your personal understanding of scripture.
just my quarter's worth (it used to be 2 cents, but this inflation thingy is a KILLER!).
