Amen to disregarding quotes from the Bible. I'd say disregard the whole thing. It might not be a very good book but it's surely a very long one.
The Bible is full of repulsive stories. Any thinking rational person should feel nothing but gratitude the day they overcome the forced indoctrination they probably recieved as a child which told them to wall of the Bible from their critical faculties.
A thorough reading of the Bible in its entirety is the most powerfully persuasive argument for atheism. The more I hear from anti-gay fundamentalist supremacists and hear quotes from the Bible used to support bigotry and hate, the gayer I become. :)

Let's all be clear. GWilliams isn't concerned about what his invisible magical imaginary god being thinks of gay people. He's a coward. GWilliams uses his supernatural beliefs and ancient texts to mask his own supremacist bigoted views. Simple as that. He's a bigot no different in any way from those who use the Bible to support slavery and Jim Crow. The Bible is very useful for those sorts of deluded supremacists such as GWilliams. It always has been.

I learned about right and wrong from my parents and the community in which I was raised. I also agree to follow the civil law. Supernatural laws based on biblical texts hold no sway over me. The Bible is a poor guide for morality. It ought not be brought out around children. Much too repulsive and full of barbaric bizarre beliefs.

But before I let this cult head GWilliams off the hook too soon, let's think about him for a moment. He's quite right that the existence of gay people is a challenge to a certain faction of the supernatural set: the Fundamentalists. They've denigrated and vilified gay people for so long that for them to now admit they were wrong and that the Bible is errant is anathema to their whole existence.

Think about that again. To accept gay people as whole human beings just as we are and deserving of equality under the law would mean the Fundamentalists were not only wrong, they were immorally heinously outrageously cruelly wrong. Fundamentalists are about control. Through their rigid legalistic intolerant reading of ancient nonsensical barbaric texts they gain a childish simplistic view of the complexities of life and reality. It's surely comforting and consoling to live under the spell of such forced simplicity.

Can you imagine how afraid they are now that gay people are standing before them and the world as living breathing testimonies to the corrupt bankrupt beliefs they've invested their whole lives in? That's why GWilliams comes to articles like this one. He must affirm over and over gain, through his bizarre rants, that his beliefs have merit. Of course, he knows down deep that they don't. He knows that his descendants will be as ashamed of him as many today are ashamed of their racist ancestors.

We can only look at GWilliams with curiosity and a degree of pity. His time is past for the most part. He and the anti-gay supremacist homo bigots and the anti-gay industries are hysterical and angry as they watch their whole world view shown to be empty. That's what the existence of unashamed, confident, beautiful, contributing, intelligent, outspoken, activist, progressive gay people means to these fundamentalists like GWilliams.. disillusionment.

It must be very disorienting for them just as it was for racists when the descendants of slaves began to sit at the front of the bus.

GWilliams, you can change. You can leave your bizarre irrational superstition based lifestyle and accept evidence as central to your reasoning. I believe in your potential GWilliams to overcome your supremacist indoctrination and enter the real world where people and life are complex and genuinely mysterious. I believe in your potential to come out of your limited small perspective and see the vast world as it is. A world far more grandiose and awe inspiring than anything your puny religion has ever captured in its ancient barbaric ignorant words.

Good luck GWilliams. You can do it. You can leave the supremacist lifestyle. If you need help, just ask. There are plenty of people who know what you're gonig through. :)
