Peace and an end to atrocity has never been more possible.
You have a new gentleman in the whitehouse.
Two simple acts by this one man may change everything.
Dare to imagine the potential for yourself.
1. President Obama signs the ICC's Rome Statute making the US the 109th signatory to this excellent law for the Peace and Security of all humanity. (personally read the law - don't rely on third hand views)
2. Imagine at signing he asks the peoples of the world to personally take the time to read this document and if they see the same potential he sees, then ask your leaders to join him in signing this law so that it applies to all nations equally. In this time of economic crisis the last thing we need is ongoing wars.
From this new moral high ground all acts of attrocity can be dealt with legally and with international support without fear or favor.
By embracing the law you avoid the bias of religion, race, creed and politics. It's just a law that is very specific and it covers all (if not most of) the atrocities we see today and in our past. Remeber, its written by international legal experts.
Peace will always need a treaty. I suggest, it already exists.
Here's some extracts of what's illegal under this law.
"(xxiii) Utilizing the presence of a civilian or other protected person to render certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations;"
"(xxv) Intentionally using starvation of civilians as a method of warfareby depriving them of objects indispensable to their survival, including wilfully impeding relief supplies as provided for under theGeneva Conventions;"
Consider informing yourself by going to the source. Read the law and decide personally. To see the laws potential you only need to read the first 10 pages.
Begin to use law to support your views. Laws provide focus. You provide the YOUnity.

If you read the law you'll struglle to see the validity of the sovereignty debate. Only those that fear their ability to uphold this noble (in principle) law should be afraid.
Not to mention the economic benefit of reducing war as a means of conflict resolution. That's this law potential if we can take the time to see it for ourselves.
Truth, Justice its the american way.
Peace for all by law

P.S. The Obama administration is correct. There should be no leeway given to those that say it can't happen. Embrace people that credibly say yes we can.
Credibly meaning they have some for of expert endorsement.
Economically this would appear simple ( in the long run). Companies exist to achieve sustainable margins.
If you take India and China alone, the potential demand for fuel efficient, clean energy vehicles would have to be massive. Who ever embraces evolution (that's a key) to the viable (that's another) transport solution of the future could stand to make a fortune.
Something doesn't make sense in all of this. It's either that the technology is not viable, vested interested are being protected or some other agenda.
Time to get real by engaging the expert technologists on what is an economically viable vehicle that will permit the fastest transition for existing manufacturers and then present this proposition with funding and simply ask why not?
I personally like the idea of two styles of vehicles a lightweight double person commuter and a weekend traveller.

Hi Michelle,
How is that the UN escape's scrutiny?
Sudan is not a signnatory to the ICC's Rome Statute. It was the UN in 2005 (after 3 years of deliberation) that gave the court the authority to act.
Right now though, the important issue is the people of Darfur.
The UN has a moral obligation because they gave the ICC it's authority to intervene in Darfur.
http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2005/sgsm9797.doc.htm
The salvage some integrity and demonstrate respect for human life , the UN must act immediately and decisively to do what ever it takes to protect the people of Darfur. In the process they should support the law they brought to bear witness in Darfur.
No more atrocity, no more Rwanda, no more Gaza, no more Sri Lanka, no more Pakistan ... no more politics when atrocity and crime are involved - just law.
America have you read your law today.

Hi Charles,
You'll find my contributions here on a Change.Org.

I advocate for peace by law and urge people to read and consider support for the "principles" of the ICC's Rome Statute. That is, don't throw the baby out wit the bath water. When a good law steps in, politics must leave.
I find that people have a view on the law but very few have actually read it. Much worse the current defense by non signatories is that it impacts on their sovereignty. I am not sure this assumption has been critically challenge.
Dare to imagine (after you have read the Statute - at least to page 10) a world where every country (not just 108 which includes 2 notable US War Time allies - UK and Australia - who still participate with the US) were signatories to this document.
America is not currently a signatory, so its possible to start with a clean slate.
Further consider this scenario. President Obama insists that Iraq joins him and the US in signing the ICC's Rome Statute as an instrument of a commitment to peace and the end of attrocity.
President Obama, then turns to Iran and asks tehm to join him. Finally he invites leaders and people from around the globe to read this law for international peace and security and make a personal conscious decision to join together to end attrocity and force all conflict to be heard before the UN assembly.
Dare to hope, focus and unite... Truth, Justice ... the american way?
Peace by law for all.
P.S. Arrest Bashir, the law has been invoked, so he should defend himself before law, not use politics to escape examination of his alledged role in the deaths of thousands.
Support legal solutions to international issues. Not war.
Rob.
Hi again GC,
I see your pain and anguish. I agree that women should not suffer such persecution. Particualrly based on a spiritual premise.
In my opinion, any worthwhile spiritual doctrine should mature the follower. They should know true joy. True joy, usually belongs to the selfless. Generally who are an example of the most selfless. Mothers. Therefore womens roles in spiritual matters has not held the place it deserves. Personally I favour a more collaborative model, light and shade and all that.
Consider this Scenario. Iraq signs, America Signs and then from a new moral high ground ( and possibily renewed global respect) America invites Iran to join the international community and sign. Does this harm your cause.
Peace oh passionate one.
Mark, thanks for the support.
Peace by law... dare to hope, dare to dream, know your law.
