I worked with UC Cooperative Extension for over 5 years and often traveled to and interacted with UC Davis campus professors during research projects. The university, like all UC campuses, is progressive in its scientific pursuit but can only be described as "sold out" when it comes to what's right for UC Davis students. All we need do is follow the money trail to see where you got the marching orders to bring in militant police to quash a peaceful demonstration. Corporations have infiltrated the UC at the highest levels and your actions exemplify why we need a total overhaul of who sits on the boards and where research dollars come from. If fear of slowing progress in the name of science means beating up students who peacefully assemble to stop tuition increases, you've seriously got your priorities mixed and need to step down. Your actions illustrate what Paulo Freire outlines in Pedagogy of the Oppressed when students are treated as "bank" accounts and are dehumanized by the oppressive actions of those in charge of education. I praise the COURAGE of the students who practice civil disobedience and support calls for your resignation.
