I really want you to THINK about why you are denying this child the right to live and tell me with a clear conscience that history will not paint you in the same light with other eugenics monsters...
I'll leave the same comment I left on the petition:
Parents not only need a break, but our health care workers, our school systems and emergency workers also need to understand the needs of people on the autistic spectrum. Health diagnosis's are missed, educational opportunities don't happen and confrontations with law enforcement can sometimes have devastating effects. Groups like POAC NJ have just scratched the surface in educating law enforcement, schools and parents, we need more...
I always liken 'finding that balance' to the childhood games like "Don't Dreak the Ice", "Jenga", or any other game that involves everything crashing down if you don't get it right. Perhaps the best visual representation is 'Operation', where you are trying to extract pieces of the patient's body (like funny bone etc) without touching the sides and causing the patient to 'go off' (red light on the nose). Trying to get something good out of our kids, having to be super careful not to set them off, having to start all over if we 'lose'. I thought it a fun little analogy:
We've been thinking of a slightly different wrinkle to the ITouch, namely, the newer 'touchable' screens for laptops and desktops. Not for the PECS of it all, but more toward getting Livie, our 6 year old non verbal child, more interested in the computer so that we could next mover her towards alternate means of communication.
Oh yea...I guess this means I shouldn't buy that parachute, huh? I feel like Doctor Emmet Brown in Back to the Future saying " DO you know what this means? That this 'mind reading' device will NEVER work!" ::throws mind reading device off his head::
