Every action makes a difference.
For example, if everyone turned up the thermostat in their home by one degree in the summer and down one degree in the winter, we'd save an average of 8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity and 160 billion cubic feet of natural gas. That equates to about 15 million tons of carbon dioxide (leading cause in climate change) in the US alone. Doing this would effectively eliminate an entire year's worth of emissions from three large coal plants.
That plus the 25,000 tons of sulfur dioxide saved when we use less heating and cooling energy can help mitigate acid rain. (acid rain, acid snow, and acid fog occur when sulfur dioxide is released into the air)
Every action makes a difference.
