An SBOE is an obviously necessary thing to help update and maintain a viable and up to date curriculum for the schools of the state in question. It shouldn't be necessary to strip the SBOE of any of its power, yet as the current Texas SBOE has shown. There is something broken in the system that allows extremists and anti-intellectuals to twist and essentially render useless any education that might be imparted by the public education system.
What can be done to fix this? -

That's the only definition we need really, the rest are fine as well, and yet he claimed that such a definition didn't exist. That's why I post it. -

Please cite your source that you cling to so harshly, and which defines marriage as only between one man and one woman. To What / Which tradition do you base your claims. You say it is not upon the bible, yet your statements are identical to those whose religious fear-mongering lead to Prob 8, as well as the measure before it that was killed by the Courts.
Now perhaps I'm misreading you, but I've not heard, read, or am aware of any attempt to deny Male-Female marriage. Only the desire for a portion of our society to enjoy the same rights as everyone else. Equal rights is not silly, and if you think it is, you should look at the conditions of those who live in such locals that lack such opportunity for equal treatment under the law.
As to what a 'Homophobe" is. I fail to see what that has to do with the price of tea, but I will answer you with the dictionary. Definitions care of Dictionary.com
Homophobe -noun A person who fears or hates homosexuals and homosexuality.
Homophobia - noun 1. Fear of or contempt for lesbians and gay men. 2. Behavior based on such a feeling. -

So my guess on your basis for a definition was wrong, happy to be wrong. That's the nice thing about being an Atheist. I can be wrong without freaking out.
However, you didn't answer the question, nor the points made by others. Why, after said definition has been re-written so many times just within the last 100 years do you claim some moral authority to say it good enough.
Upon what authority or right do you claim to say that its okay to discriminate against LGBT persons?
You see, this is the problem, and I'm going to go ahead and make a broad claim here. You can't make any claim that would not be considered ridiculous, bigoted, and wrong in any other context or at the substitution of Gay for any other group. That's the problem and if you can't see that, it is your mind that closed to reality. -

Based on your statements I'm going to guess that you base your claims on some biblical basis and/or what your pastor told you. So please explain why you're specific belief system has any more claim to a word then any other. For that matter, please define your source for marriage being only one man and one woman.
I can assure you that we can show you many cases where your definition even today is completely bogus.
The point is that the word Marriage is a civil contract between 2 persons and has absolutely nothing to do with religion accept the fact that religion has attempted to co-opt it for the purposes of making money and controlling people. -

Let me step in before some Fundi jumps in with some strained slippery slope argument.
The rights of people do not transcend the law and those things that are illegal. Gay people getting married does not lead to pedophiles marrying 10 year old's, this is not Saudi Arabia. There is this whole "Consenting Adults" thing upon which our laws are based.
Reality check here for all you "this is a Christian Nation" retards. Guess what. ITS NOT. The Constitution of this country and our laws are based on secular values that we as a society agree upon. Its illegal to steal from someone else, you can't kill someone else unless your own life is under active threat (Self Defense), Etc...
1/2 of a Pedophilic relationship can't give consent no matter how much brain washing has taken place because we as a society realize that a 10 year old does not have the mental maturity to give such consent.
However, 2 Gay men can give consent, and what happens in their bedroom is none of your business.
