David,
Do you really believe that your leaders are not corrupt? Do you really believe that you do not have the blood of innocent Palestinians on your hands?
I am not sure why, but I keep thinking of the beating of Rodney King when I hear Israelis defend their country's actions. The police who kept beating King used as their defense that King would not stop moving when told to. It seems each time they hit him he moved, so they kept hitting him while he was defenseless and on the ground.
I do not think your country has any more right to keep killing Palestinians at will then the police had to keep hitting King.
Sure ineffective rockets keep getting fired, sure Hamas wants the destruction of Israel, but why does Israel work so hard to make Hamas loved by the Palestinians? Now, after the latest attack, Hamas has much more support among the Palestinians. Doesn't this make you understand that aggression to meet aggression brings more aggression? Hate brings hate.
I do not understand why Palestinian citizens of Israel are treated as second class citizens, as the "colored" were treated in the South, and then expect Palestinians everywhere to understand the high moral ground Israel believes it is on?
If you want peace you need to stand on the street corner and demand it. As my father always told me, it takes two to fight.
It is so refreshing to have a President who understands we can turn our Nation and economy around by putting people to work improving the energy efficency of our buildings and harnesing renewable energy to run them. Currently, almost 50% of energy used in this country is for buildings. More than 50% of it is wasted by how poorly our buildings actually work. Building science (how wonderful to hear that science will again be important) tells us how to do this, contractors are trained and ready to go to work. Now we have a President who will help make the transition to the fuels of the 21st Centruy.
We can do it.
Violence begats violence, peace and stability cannot come from a gun. The anger and resentment in the Middle East is a poison and cancer that is ruining generations but how can the violence stop when an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is the cultural operative? How can violence stop when the ruling power refuses to stop illegal Zionist settlements with all means available?
The only solution can be from peaceful protests that link together people from all tribes in a reality based quest for peace and coexistance.
