We have a couple of girls in our son's football league including one of my son's team. It hasn't been a big deal at all. In fact, the girl on my son's team is one of our best players. My son never even mentioned to me that there was girl on his team, I just saw the blonde braids sticking out of the back of the helmet at the first game and knew for sure afterwards when she was leaving with her parents. All the kids treat her as "one of the team" - no better and no worse. I wish I could show you the great pictures I have of her on the team. I truly believe that this experience has gone a long way in teaching my son and other boys on the team all kinds of lessons including gender equality - a lesson they don't even realize they're learning. AND about how to be decent human beings. Prejudice is learned. It comes from the parents, not the children. Getting worked up about having a girl on the football team is just ridiculous.
