I lived in Northern California with my Wife and 2 Daughters for 10 years. I love the Redwoods - and California Wine. I used to visit the former with (my Family and) a bottle of the latter. We need both - there must be a way to preserve them both. I guess some people can't see the forest for the (money) wine, though. Shame! Shame! Shame!
I would vote against my own beloved City in these same circumstances. Despite the lure of jobs and financial security, this course of action actually exposes the community to unconscionable risk. It is in direct conflict with municipal officials' oath to provide for the common wealth. Please don't do this!
Children need direction and guidance. They get their attitudes from their parents - some of which are inappropriate, like racism or xenophobia. Nonetheless, inappropriate attitudes cannot hurt others, as long as behavior is appropriate. It is up to the schools to provide a yardstick for public public behavior - and to be measured by that yardstick, as well.
