Rainer J. commented on the petition |Even if one doesn't agree with the views of the demonstrators, the brutality enacted against them by CUNY security and the NYPD is reprehensible and morally repugnant. Some people believe that it is un-American to protest and demonstrate, but that is one of our constitutional rights. In fact, it is the duty of an upright citizen. In case the chancellor is not familiar with the Declaration of Independence:
"when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
If the chancellor doesn't resign, I will cease pursuing my PhD at CUNY. I have no desire to share my accomplishments with an institution which permits violence against students and faculty.
