I don't know if you're talking about Michael or me, but either way, Hamas and Israel are not the same, whether they're both 'religiously insane' or no. Hamas broke the peace treaty because it gained them nothing; Israel still stopped aid from going into Gaza and none of the prizoners were released. Hamas is fighting, at least this conflict, for a reason, while Israel could release the Palestinian prisoners and release Gaza from its stanglehold.
Israel just released a statement saying that they would accept no truce. Over 350 people have been killed and over 800 wounded. Four Israelis have been killed.
Assassinating their leaders would only create more chaos in the middle east, as Hamas would split into hundreds of groups, each a possible cause of violence and each with its own agenda. Hamas is actually good for giving the chaos of Palestine. Aside from this, this would be nearly impossible, and would certainly cause untold civilian casualties and enrage tens or hundreds of thousands of people.
I feel that Hamas is actually in the right in this conflict. Sure they broke the truce and launched rockets into Israel, but Israel is keeping thousands of Palestinians prisoner. Israel also overreacted, killing over 300 people, at least 64 of which were civilians.
Also, the "so called palestinians" are in fact tired of war. They have been ravaged far more than the Israelis, and only want their family and friends that have been captured to be realeased. The few among them that do want Israel destroyed are fanatics, though they are, at least partially, justified.
If Israel truly wanted peace, they would stop the siege of Gaza and let relief supplies in. In a recent statement by aid workers, they (the aid workers) said that they were glad that Israel was letting a few trucks in, but that it is not nearly enough.
Michael
Writing a letter to a newspaper company wouldn't help at all. Hamas, even if it is fighting a hopeless battle, which I don't think it is, would not, will not, surrender because it is 'hopelss' They are like the American revolutionaries, and won't give up their fight. You need to remember that this is a war for their lands, their religion, their families, their beliefs and for revenge. Israel has killed over 9,000 Palestinians, and this war has affected every family, every man woman and child in Palestine.
