Alcohol is worse than marijuana with regard to harmful effects and our country should have learned from the failure of making alcohol illegal during the prohibition.
Instead of persecuting people who use or sell illegal drugs, it is far more beneficial to focus on realistic and thorough education regarding the harmful effects of substances and make effective treatment readily available to addicts. And, punishing a mother is punishing a hole family, is this acceptable?
We also need to keep in mind that all the cruelties related to drug trafficking particularly in Juárez is largely caused and fueled by the craving for drugs of Americans and by the persecution of substance abuse which drives up the cost and enriches the drug traffickers. The least that judges in the US can do to reduce fueling these cruelties is to quit persecution of substance abusers.
