    Great story.

Now we need the step by step how-to. Teach the people how.

What the Food Safety Bill does is give more power to the FDA - an organization that we know is headed by Monsanto and other Big Ag insiders, and which has been in bed with these agencies for decades.

Nothing has been done by this bill that would reform that relationship, yet somehow this bill will magically transform the FDA into caring about sustainable foodies?

So now the folks who oppose this bill are "crazies" who "don't care about food safety"?

What's crazy is thinking the way to "fix" food safety is to give more power the folks who are in bed with Big Ag - Monsanto et al.
Since when does industry support a bill that is going to change their comfort zone and the status quo?
    They don't.
They support this one because it will just further insulates the FDA from any accountability to the taxpayers.

Folks need to remember that the FDA recently argued in court that:

"There is no absolute right to consume or feed children any particular food."

    US citizes have no
'fundamental right to their own bodily and physical health, which includes what foods they do and do not choose to consume for themselves and their families'

    AND they
"do not have a fundamental right to obtain any food they wish."

Were they talking about Twinkies, GMO's and McD"s here? NO!
This was directed at sustainable food eaters who are trying to have access to healthy, real, undulterated food.

A vote for more power to the FDA is a vote for more power to Big Ag.

What we need is FDA accountability and reform.

The problem with the "ignore 'em" logic is that it doesn't work.

Moslem's tried to ignore their fanatics, but there is still a huge population of folks who see all Moslems as terrorists. A  few can easily taint the reputation of  many.

I'm having my "Jesus loves DDT"  and "Chernobyl - a blessed event"  bumber stickers made as we speak...

About your side note -  the number of illnesses, known or unknown, are irrelevant.

Almost all sustainable foodies agree that our current food system is a mess in large part because the  FDA and USDA have long been in bed with the industries they are supposed to be regulating.

There have not been  any reforms to these agencies in order to correct that issue. In fact, we've been helplessly watching as Obama has been appointing even more industry insiders to high places.

How then does it sound remotely sensible to expect to  fix this problem by granting more funds and power to the offending agencies? Industry was delighted with this legislation and supported it wholeheartedly. How big a red flag do some folks need?

Congrats, Harry. You tried your best here.

Well, Robert,  this legislation ensures you'll get your irradiated food. You must be beaming. Pun intended.

You foolish Changies who supported this crazy legislation were DUPED!

Surprise surprise -  guess who just came out with data finding that food poisoning is actually way DOWN in the US?    Check out the CDC data....  all that media hype about foods of mass destruction - maybe not as bad as we thought.

    what timing!

Or rather, NOT telling them what they want to know about the food they're eating!

C Cary's comment made me realize something wonderful.

In the case of the non-browning apple, they will not be able to hide the fact that this is GMO food.

Simply marketing the non-browning trait, they will alert saavy consumers. So what we need to do is make sure folks are aware.

i agree with you C Cary. IT's all about choice. Consumers do not need money hungry GMO-pushers telling them what's good for them.   :)

"An apple a day keeps the doctor away." The properties that cause browning in an apple are

anti-diarrheal (Kaopectate works using the same properties).

This is an example of a known loss of benefit in an apple. What are the unknowns that will be lost?

Why did the apple become famous  enough to become a health giving  cliche?
