We're all undocumented. None of us speaks Cherokee. All of us who think we're documented ought be very humble. Of course we should forsake the fear and start rational conversation about the paths to wholeness and inclusion.
Remember when Hillary was working on an Adoption Bill with Tom Delay, snake of snakes? Prez Bill asked her, 'Are you sure you're OK working with Delay on this?' She said, "I'd work with the Devil to get more kids adopted."
I think Prez O realizes that this Love Your Enemies and Turn the Other Cheek stuff is extremely radical. He actually means the idea of working with everybody, and I think that is a huge message right at the top of his/our inauguration. It's made me, an advocate of gay rights since before the word 'gay' even appeared, re-think the Big Idea of being President of the whole country.
I do believe that you can soften people's hard hearts by respecting what you can find to respect rather than booing and hissing. We wouldn't want to be booed. We should act the change we want, as Gandhi suggests -- if we want inclusion, let's include.
