I think its time to share my personal experience. Being a young man i am a prime target for profiling. This year i was on my way from taking placement tests at my local college, to my job. It was at this point i was pulled over for driving 7 mph over the limit. Being completely sober and clean at the time (mind you i needed to be for my school tests and work) i felt confident the officer was just concerned with my driving 7 mph over the limit. I was quite a bit wrong. First thing the officer does in lean in my window and say "So when did you throw the blunt out the window?" Baffled i asked what he was talking about, he precedes to reach in my car producing a fleck smaller than that of a fruit fly and claimed it to be Marijuana. From this point i am now "detained" he proceeded to completely search my car coming up with nothing. He goes in my trunk under the carpet by the spare and produces an Empty dub bag. Witch he suspected had MJ residue in it. I was Immediately brought to headquarters, my car being threatened to be towed. Once at the police station i was charged with "subsequent" charges, insuring that they cannot be dropped.. (seemed he had done this alot) i was told im now facing Loosing my license for 2 years, up to 1 year in prison, and just about $10,000 in fines. For an empty bag, that they did not even send out for discovery. The only thing that saved me was hiring the biggest gun lawyer i could. He informed me he would do what he can, but because of the way the officer wrote the charges it did not look good. On the court day i came to discover i was pulled over by this counties "Weed Cop" Of all the cases to be heard on that day, 25 where his(i was one of them) and all 25 where petty marijuana charges, nothing else. People before me all had the book thrown at them, One kid from Oklahoma being put on a plane home without his license, and another kid from Upstate NY getting a special 3 hour license to drive home. If it was not for my polite disposition at the time of arrest and my lawyer they where going to make an example of me. I was hit with the full money charge and one year probation. I was lucky i felt. This is what taxpayers dollars had gone to, sending 9 cops with two SUV units, the chief of police and the K-9 unit, not to mention the court date and everyone involved there, seems a worthy way of spending tax money.. being someone who has enjoyed the all around benefits of MJ since age 12 (originally picked up to curb my sever anger problem and found numerous other benefits from ending my ADHD, depression, anxiety, and insomnia to simple body pains point it my back and right knee) Im let down with the effects of having a MJ charge on your record. Finding a job above Manuel Labor has become impossible, being looked at like a criminal is now the normal. Ive been with out MJ for over 4 months and find that my patience for people has diminished, as you can tell by the timing of all my posts my insomnia has returned and so on... Im tired of this all, i love my country to death, and feel we have opportunities here that others only dream of. But sadly i must say, if things pertaining to the legalization do not change soon, then i must say after i serve my 1 years time i will be leaving my beloved home for a more tolerant area. Please, we can do better, i do not wish to completely lose faith in all of our political and legal system. Im tired of being labeled a criminal because i bettered myself. I have not shared my story with anyone but my immediate family, who is disgusted with the actions of the police force and court, and now i shared it with you all. Please keep up the good fight everyone. Yes we Cannabis.
