(copied from my Facebook profile) Visionary, leader, opinion leader, thought leader, technologist, pioneer, dreamer, prophet. Mostly, I'm known for the open voting projects. I have worked on other initiatives, and hope to see those move forward as well. Three things happened in my formative years that taught me that we can't assume that our trusted leaders know what they're doing: 1) Vietnam, 2) energy crisis of 1973, and 3) Watergate. The Bay of Pigs was also a pretty stunning fiasco but I wasn't so aware of it when it happened... learned about that one in college.
I'm highly "googleable," since I'm about the only notable Alan Dechert.

Seriously, if instead of investing the billions it would take to build a few nuclear power plants, you put that money into wind and solar power, we will produce more energy with the renewables.
Plus, future generations will not have to pay for the decommissioning and waste disposal costs of nuclear.
Another thing they won't have to pay for: FUEL. The U.S. does not have much of any uranium. You need to grind up mountains of ore to get the handfuls of those little pellets. So, we depend on foreign sources for that. And prices for this fuel are skyrocketing. Sound familiar?
This is a horrible idea -- beyond belief. You can't build a nuclear power plant in California because we have had a moritorium in place for 20 years or so -- for good reason.
