Focus on the Family, an interest group opposed to abortion, will air a 30-second commercial featuring Tebow and his mother, Pam.
Pam's story certainly is moving. But as a guide to making abortion decisions, it's misleading. Doctors are right to worry about continuing pregnancies like hers. Placental abruption has killed thousands of women and fetuses. No doubt some of these women trusted in God and said no to abortion, as she did. But they didn't end up with Heisman-winning sons. They ended up dead.
Being dead is just the first problem with dying in pregnancy. Another problem is that the fetus you were trying to save dies with you. A third problem is that your existing kids lose their mother. A fourth problem is that if you had aborted the pregnancy, you might have gotten pregnant again and brought a new baby into the world, but now you can't. And now the Tebows have exposed a fifth problem: You can't make a TV ad. -

The study found strong evidence that a woman’s exposure to pesticides in the three months prior to conception or in the month of conception significantly increased her risk of spontaneous abortion.
Preconception exposure to the pesticides glyphosate, atrazine, carbaryl, and 2,4-D increased relative risk of spontaneous abortion by 20-40%. Risks were even higher for women exposed to pesticides at age 35 or older and for women exposed to pesticide mixtures.

Despite the recent policy changes Charles C. Lynch was to be sentenced on April 23, 2009 at the Federal Court House in Los Angeles, but Judge Wu continued the sentencing until June 11, 2009 to give defense lawyers more time to provide legal briefings to get around the Mandatory Minimums. Judge Wu indicated that if he could get around the mandatory minimums he would but still cannot find legal standing.
Medical Pot Grower Eddy Lepp Gets 10 Years
A medical-marijuana advocate who grew 32,000 plants on his land in Lake County was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday by a federal judge who criticized the law she was applying.

I may have more on this later. It was a bit.. odd. I felt like I needed to be reading between the lines at times. Sure, there was a lot of the standard stuff that a drug czar would say in such a presentation (justifying all the budget items with the drug war language of the past), but then there were statements like this:
There continues to be much discussion in the media about whether personal use of drugs should be decriminalized. What we cannot lose sight of during this discussion, is that we all agree addiction is a preventable and treatable chronic condition.
Notice the use of a non-sequitur instead of denunciation, and the offhand acceptance of the idea of discussion.
He also made another statement that we need to hold up to him whenever possible:
During my tenure, debate will be continuous and inclusive of disparate ideas.

The Drug Czar speaks... and dances
ONDCP Director Gil Kerlikowske was interviewed this morning on KUOW in Seattle.
The audio is available here. It's a nice extended interview, and gives you a chance to get to know Kerlikowske's style a little bit. It's a mixed bag, with lots of pretty offensive stuff (of course) and some odd material where he puts on his tap shoes and dances up a storm.

An Indictment, Not an Obituary – by Richard Cowan
Peter McWilliams, 50, best selling author, poet, photographer, publisher, libertarian crusader, medical marijuana activist, AIDS patient and cancer survivor, was found dead on the floor of his bathroom, apparently having choked to death after vomiting, for want of medical marijuana.
There will be an autopsy, but whatever the immediate cause of death may have been, he was murdered by the United States Government as surely as if they shot him.

This is why.
In addition to his web journalism, Mark is one of the nation's leading drug policy experts. His book Against Excess remains an essential reference. So he ought to know.
It is precisely because Kleiman is widely considered an expert, and is extremely knowledgeable, that I must hold him to account when his blind spots cause him to lose the ability for rational thought.

In 1996, less than a year into his term, the new drug czar met Jim Burke, a smooth-talking, silver-haired executive who chaired the Partnership for a Drug-Free America — the advertising organization best known for the slogan "This is your brain on drugs." "Burke personally was very hard to resist," one of his former colleagues tells me. "I've seen him sell many conservative members of Congress and also liberals like Mario Cuomo."

Have to make em guilty or at least feel guilty or threatened. Absolutely nothing wrong with smoking Ganja. Thousand year old practice with no toxic reactions or deaths. Comparing it to chemical cigarettes is as false as the Gateway and Mo Potent than yo mama Grimm Fairytales.
Logical if family farms, Indians and poor Mexicans could grow Hemp and utilize the seed, oil and fiber as Canada and 30 other countries do. Spurting the textiles growth and a Willie Nelson biodiesel truckstop for local communities. They could sustain their villages and lessen the tax burden. Only threatening Ag Chem Biz and farm labor exploitation profits. Getting back to the traditional ways of organic food and natural fiber, not cottons 90 million pounds of poisons. Aborting more bible belt op rescue babies than Roe V Wade. OK for asbestos to cancerize US towns populations, DDT PCB Aspartame and Agent Orange drugs aren't even scheduled. Mental Illness and Drug Addiction aren't on most health insurance menu's. "Treatment" Asylums bars are as thick as prisons, without a crime even needed.
