Well Vlasta, there is a lot of misunderstanding and misinformation in your post, here we go, you say you met Arabs in a small shop that said they wish to throw the jews into the sea, okay, this doesn't mean much, some Palestinians say so, but, not one single political party has this as a goal, not even Hamas, many Israelis wants to anialate teh Palestinians, ever heard of Shas? they are far more extreme that Hamas, they are the exagerated Israeli version of Hamas, I can go to a shop in their neighborhood in West Jerusalem and get the jews in the shop to say so, doesn't mean that this is the official position of the Israeli government, second, Palestinians are currently under seige, they are dying from lack of medicine, and many of them feel that Israeli occupation is responsible for their plight, and yes, they are angry.
I learned in Palestinian schools, and I was raised Muslim, textbooks never did arithmatics based on number of Israelis killed, you have to differenciate between aggression, and legitimate fight for your homeland- the homeland that Arabs lived in for the last several hundreds of years, yes, according to all international laws, Palestine is an occupied terretories, the legit owners SHOULD fight for their rights, if you are American, and somebody came and occupied your State, wouldn't you fight back?
The rockets you are talking about are home made simple things that caused the death of two Israeli civilians, I in no shape or form condone Hamas's rockets, but, it is worth metioninh here that Gaza has been under blockade, they were surrounded by land, see, and air, tehy had nowhere to go, their unemployment went up to 50%, expect anger to grow under these circumstances, they made some simple home made rockets that caused minimal damage, what did they get in return? a massive air strike and land invasion that killed hundreds most of them are civilians. It is worth mentioning that Jews were never kicked out of Arab countries after teh second world war, as a matter of fact, they were forbidden to leave, they escaped, and the settled in teh homes of teh Palestinians that were forced out, tehy didn't leave volunarily by promises they will be able to loot and anialate teh jews, no, what happened was the Jewish troops killed some civilians in public, and threatened to kill many Arabs, they practiced a mind war agaist teh Palestinians, the jews were educated and smart, and they outsmarted the Palestinian peasants, and forced them off their lands, these people have been living under miserable condition in camps eversince.
The other myth is that people think that Palestians were oferred a State by Barack in 2000, not true, Palestinians were oferred 90% of teh lands occupied in 1967, but, it happened that te remaining 10% were essential lands to assure that Palestine will be a continous land, in other words, had Palestinians accepted that offer, Palestine would be devided into three separate peices, also, this offer didn't include Jerusalem which is very important for the Palestinians, and it also totally ignored the plight of the refugees, this is not a fair offer.
The only thing I agree with you on, is to invite everybody to visit the region, go, see Israel and Palestine, talk to the people there, and see the desparate circumstances Israel created in Palestine, see for yourself.

Right on Eileen, the Jews have to get beyond the old holocaust, it is over, khalas (means its over in Arabic). Germany is still paying them reparations to this day, they appologized, all the survivors either died or are extremely old, what else can the world do? and for how long? On the other hand, the Palestinians are going through a mini holocaust everyday, and like you, I am courageous enough to say that the Palestinians have many shortcomings, however, the hard cold fact is: Israel is an occupier, and the bigest myth Israelis and Jews around the world are trying to spread is that: "The Arabs are after us, they want to throw us in the Sea", this is totally a myth, even Hamas doesn't say so, nobody has said so within the last several years, even 3 year olds understand that Israel is a reality.
Also, I just would like to point out to antisemetism, why do Jews think that they are the only semetics, what are Arabs? Arabs are also semetics, remember? Isac and Samuel were brothers (if you beleive the biblical story).
Thanks Eileen for opening the discussion, I was hopping though for a post from a true zionist who can state the case for Israel's violations, because till now (and I have many discussions with pro Israel people), I have yet to meet somebody who states a real claim for the Israeli cause, other than: "we are fresh out of the Holocaust, and we wanna make sure that this will never happen again, means is not the issue here", or: "Arabs want to throw us in the sea, and we have to do the preemptive strike, and by the way, I have challenged those people to show me something concrete like official documents, or youtube videos of recognized officials that supports this claim". I am inviting all logical people to just come on board and state your case, I am even willing to debate the above points, just say something, anybody up for an honest debate?

Well, I just wanted to say something else, why all the world is allowed to criticize the human rights violations committed by the Israelis, while we can't do so in the USA? if a non Jew criticized Israel's crimes in the Occupied Terretories, they are quickly labeled as anti-semetic, if a Jew reiterated what the whole world (minus Israel and the USA) is saying, then they are called self hating jews, can't we have an open discussion for once? please people, can't you ever just put aside the religion and old wounds aside and just look at the cold bare facts, I challenge the writer of this article or anybody who agrees with him to have an open public discussion with me about the Israeli Palestinian issue, anybody up for the challenge??

  • Israeli PM Olmert: Divide Jerusalem, Return Golan, I Was Wrong
Haya commented on the article | about 3 years ago

I think that Israel is running out of time, the demographic clock is ticking for Israel, Arabs in Israel are growing in numbers and percentage, and yes, they can vote, and no, they are not happy being second class citizens in the Jewish State, on the other hand, the numbers of Palestinians are growing sooo fast, if Israel didn't find a solution that addresses all the major issues that need to be addressed, including: withdrawing from all the lands that were occupied in 1967 including East Jerusalem, and the right of return, or at least a generous compensation for the 1948refugees, if this problem wasn't solved to the satisfaction of all parties within the next few years, the demographic will later impose a diffirent playground where the Palestinians may possibly have an edge, all that Israel need to do now is to withdraw to the pre 1967 boarders, this means that the Palestinians get only 23% of historic Palestine. what is Israel doing in teh West Bank anyway? are they protecting the few religious nuts who are living in the settlements and costing Israel blood, money and international reputation?
In my opinion, it is in Israel's best interest to just hurry up, and follow the UN resolutions, before the Arabs and the Palestinians start to get the demographic advantage, and then they might not even agree to take back just 23% of historic Palestine.
    Thanks for reading.

Why can't you call those people reflective and honest? why can't we call things by their real name? Israel according to all international standards has violated many of the international treaties, Israel is an accupier, and for those who do not agree that Israel is an occupier, I would ask you to draw Israel's map for me, define the West Bank, is it a part of Israel? if so, why the residents of the West Bank don't get their rights as citizens in the only democracy is the region? Can you tell me what Israel is doing in the West Bank? why the settlers are still there raping the scarce resources of the Palestinians? do you really think that imprisoning and killing children is cool? do you think that demolishing homes is justified? do you think that holding sick rural people at check points, and stopping them from reaching the Hospitals is humane? Last but not least, do you think it makes any sense that the people who suferred horribly at the hands of the nazzis should treat the Palestians this way? The Palestians have been going through a mini holocaust for the last 60 years, can you at least acknowledge that the Palestinians are feeling this way? thanks for reading
