Petition to Support Fields for Youth Sports at Salona Park

I am signing this because the need for fields IS critical AND TO CLARIFY PETITION INFORMATION THAT IS NOT CORRECT.

(1) “Over the past 3 years MYS has experienced a net loss of six fields in the McLean area with no new fields being constructed.” FACT: 6 fields have not been lost, though several have been out of service during school expansions (not all at the same time). The Supervisor is not responsible for the temporary loss of these fields.
At Spring Hill Rec Ctr – one large field was temporarily unavailable during construction has been replaced with a large synthetic turf field which results in INCREASED PLAYING CAPACITY!

(2) “…we will lose the Police Field due to the $20.1 million expansion and renovation of … Dranesville Supervisor's office.
FACT: It is the POLICE STATION in the Government Center that is being expanded. Safety and community policing are important, too. Supv. Foust is working toward adding a synthetic turf field, probably with lights, as part of the Police Station expansion – again, A TEMPORARY LOSS BUT A LONG-TERM GAIN in play capacity..

(3) “The only new fields that are in the foreseeable future are the 2 fields that are planned for Salona Park. Foust and a few others are opposing … fields there. We... hereby petition the [SPTF, FCPA] and Supervisor John Foust to support and promote … two new unlit rectangular grass fields”.
FACT: Foust is not "opposing" and FCPA’s plan shows the fields. However, Salona is not ONLY a spot for 2 new fields. It is a unique site with significant historical, cultural, and environmental attributes. Constraints include: streams, wetlands, Chesapeake Bay Resource Protection Area, unique natural meadow plant community, adjacent related National Trust property, historical interpretive potential etc. FCPA is required by law to assess physical characteristics, passive rec. uses and heritage site uses. It takes time. They plan on the 2 fields plus parking and picnic area. Some assessments are still in progress and an archeological survey may be required before new construction.

Stop my brother Troy Davis' Execution on Sep. 21.

I am not against capital punishment, BUT I strongly oppose the death penalty unless evidence is INDISPUTABLE. This case is not proven enough to take the life of a ma who apparently is innocent and wrongly convicted.

Water is a natural resource that belongs to ALL – no privatization of water supply. We know the area professionally and this is a devastating plan.
If there is not enough water along the Front Range, stop inviting people to live in arid areas…stop building.

Virginia women’s health centers provide preventive reproductive health care services. Imposing the Governor’s and his supporters’ religious convictions regarding abortion by excessively regulating women’s general health care is WRONG, and it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Church and State are separate.
