  • Many "All Natural" Foods Are Actually Heavily Processed
dee commented on the article | over 1 year ago

We are currently entertaining friends from Sweden who are horrified at all the additives, preservatives and other junk that appears in all our food.  I think what we are struggling for here is the distinction and definition people can learn, find and become educated about regarding the difference between WHOLE FOODS and foods we "process".  Once beans are cooked and sugar is added to them, regardless of what TYPE of sugar, this product is now processed.  No labels saying "natural", "un-processed",  "healthy" etc should be allowed to be used.   The truth of the matter is, that us Americans are woefully uneducated in our most basic  sustaining life force - Food!  Most don't even know what a whole food is compared with a processed food.   Perhaps only two labels should be allowed "processed" for baked beans, chips etc., and "whole food" for uncooked grains like rice, lentils, beans, raw vegetables, fruits etc.    Considering our obesity levels it's not surprising  how "processed" our society is.

The flip flops would probably be snapped up as a "designer" item in places like California and Florida where it's always summer (nearly always).  From Florida it's a shorter hop to the Caribbean countries where flip flops are worn year 'round.  Also, Haiti may be a great place for them if charities can perhaps purchase them for donation?

The locals in SA have been making rubber flip flops from discarded car/truck tires for about fifty years now.  There may still be a market there for these but it's a long way to ship them.

We can all agree this is a sad situation but it is sadder still for the dead animals.  The mother perceived extreme threat and hissed, that's all, she just hissed.  We're not talking about a Grizzly here.  She was kicked, and that is absolutely inexcusable.  Also, we have no idea as to whether or not which child was "involved" and there and who wasn't.  In life, we all suffer guilt by association.  Guilt by being born in the "wrong country" guilt by being associated with guilty or innocent individuals/situations etc. etc.  We all go through it, most of us, daily.  Parents today and I stress today because this appears more of an issue than thirty years ago, tend to "protect" and validate their childrens bad behavior.  This happened to me just the other day, when a child who was WITH his parents, denied his throwing rocks.   The teacher did the correct thing.  By bringing stark attention to this issue, like Michael Vicks, we are spotlighting a sick and depraved behavior that leads to much uglier things later in life.   We don't know if the animals were tortured or not.  Unfortunately, it is probable they were, and like yourself, I wasn't there, and some little boys tell lies.  When an animal is poked with sticks and dies, no marks are left, but it is nonetheless torture.

As human animals, we twist, distort and lie about everything to make it as acceptable to us as possible.  For example an acquaintance of mine is a passionate Christain Scientist who finds no moral issue with eating animals.   We don't describe capital punishment as humane killing, humane punishment or cruelty free punishment.  It is therefore heartbreaking that when it comes to animals, we have to tippy toe around each segment of their awful lives in order to make changes more "palatable" to those who don't really care.  Step by step we will work to make complete change happen for those with no voices.
