I have been developing a Campaign for a Sustainable America for many years now. In the 90s I co-coordinated a Sustainable Community Campaign in Santa Cruz, California. It included a Sustainable Community Plan, a Household EcoTeams Program, a Sustainable Quality Awards Program for Businesses, and a Sustainable Community Video Film Festival that ran on Community TV between the 25th Anniversary of Earth Day and the 50th Anniversary of the UN.
I have represented many of the organizations listed below at the UN for the past 12 years.
The World Alliance for Transforming the UN is calling for the UN to hold a UN Charter Review Conference, as authorized under Article 109 of the Charter, to strengthen and democratize the UN and be able to solve our global challenges. I'm Rob Wheeler. I wrote this article that you've just read. Right now our Proposal to Develop and Implement a National Strategy for Sustainability is in 11th Place on Change.org's Ideas for Change in America and it needs to be in 10th to be included in the National Advocacy Campaign. Please go to vote for it now and tell all of your friends to do so as well.
Developing a national strategy will be a great way to involve the US people in determining what our energy policies will be and to continue to push for making a complete transition to renewable energy as quickly as possible.
Under Clinton the President's Council on Sustainable Development included some 7 Cabinet Level Secretaries and the Heads of many Environmental Organizations. These people sat on Task Forces with ordinary Americans, business leaders, educators, and community organizations which met for 6 years to develop a whole series of recommendations to take our country to a more sustainable future. Now the recommended policies and programs need to be implemented.
We need this kind of access to our elected and appointed officials and we need to ensure that we leave just as good a future for our children and their children as we enjoy today. Again please vote now to Create a Sustainable America and encourage all of your friends to do likewise. Vote here:
