"Thou Shalt Not Kill" is about obedience. From my vantage point anyway. If one can't/don't/won't obey all 10 (who can/does?), it simply means they are no better than any other. Myself included. For we are all members of the human race. I liken 'thou shalt not kill' to not using a cell-phone when driving. The issue can be debated until hell freezes over in that, we wonder/question, what about kids and/or others in the vehicle that are talking or creating chaos. Talking on a cell phone when driving is still about obedience. Obeying the law(s) of the land. There are always laws to follow. Be they inherent/spiritual or evident in this passage of time on the earthly plane. All of which are ever present.....
What is the purpose/attitude of why one kills? Is it for sport to see if you can hit the target? Is it because you are of the belief that God & nature don't/can't take care of its own in ITS own way & time? Because there is an over population of deer, for one example? Those whose dwellings are continually being obliterated by humankind? We're all territorial you know. How do we like it if/when neighbors cross over the line/border of our habitats? Even when it means their tree dropping leaves in your yard? Or their puppy doing its thing in your yard. Does one kill for food? Daily sustenance. Or, for monetary gain where greed is involved? Listen to/feel your conscience. Then you will be able to decide for certain what seemeth right for you...... Will prove to be telling about one's heart attitude.
There are many folk whose focus is on the New Testament only. I was once there so I understand as is humanly possible how/why you are at that place. If God truly exists (we have no proof anymore than we can prove that what the labels on food, meds, household cleaning items, etc. contain the ingredients they say and/or will do what they say they will do. We believe them anyway. By faith....), my thoughts are that the Old Testament fits hand in glove with the New. God is not only a God of love but is also a God of justice. What is to say that everything that is happening now isn't a prophesy/recycled history of all that was? That what happened then, is happening now. God's love & justice unfolding simultaneously. There are no favorites. Be they human or animals.
The Old & New Testatment verses have different interpretations as one learns/grows/matures on their particular learning curve of/for their (Bible) life...... When you read it now then go back some other time down the road, chances are it will mean something totally different to the reader. For others, Bible verses can be twisted/misconstrued to mean whatever they want the verse to mean. Similar to the Constitution.
For me, animals (not all)/pets are what help keep my heart soft..... They are so much more than meets our human eyes. There is much that can be learned from/about them. Even those that are killed. Answers can be found to our many questions relating to our life experiences. Some of what is learned, can apply directly to one's own life. Is how I learned to share, no matter the portion. Is how I learned that puppies will sacrifice their creature comforts to be near/loyal to, their master. Something we fall so very short of/from when applied to a Supreme Being/God (a Higher Standard) that many (myself included) do not do all things to the Glory of & in Honor of God or whomever one's Higher Power that they pray to.
Thanks for your kind comments Lisa & Stephanie. I appreciate them greatly. The timing for some of the things I say can be so bad sometimes.....
There is much to be learned from our animal friends. There healing can bring about our own healing as well.....
I wish there was some way I could delete my responses.
My humblest apologies. Your story was about you (not me) & the things you are experiencing with your 4-legged, fur bearing budd/companion.
This is going to sound "lame" now that the damage has been done. My heart goes out to/for both of you. That a full & speedy recovery is in store.
My apologies..... It just occurred to me what the problem was that our Siberian Husky was born with. It was hip displacement. Not uncommon with this breed of puppy. It was a long healing process for him (& us) too.
We also had one of a few parakeets. We left this particular winged warrior home alone over a weekend. Not to worry. We left him ample food & water. I am quite conscientous about things like that. As in, put myself in their place. At any rate, when we returned home, we discovered that somehow its leg was injured. We typically open our little buddies cage (had a landing porch we made attached outside the cage door) so that he could have a moments freedom to spread his wings. Once he realized his leg wasn't functioning properly, it wasn't long after that he left us.
Pets help immensely in keeping my heart soft.

Wonderful story..... I have had 3 puppies (sounds more personal to me than calling our 4-legged, fur bearing friends a dog), not all at the same time. Only two, once. I know what it is like getting to know them & when it is time for them to move on. Maybe I will post a story. There is so much I'd like to say but can't even put my thoughts into words. Puppies are so much more than meets our human eyes & ears. They do things (as do humans) that transcend any training they get in school. When therein lies compassion & respect, you hurt when they hurt. I don't even have to imagine what you are going thru. I already feel it because we went thru something similar with our Siberian Husky who was born with a hip or leg problem. Sorry I can't remember at the moment as it was some time ago. It doesn't mean he was any less important in our lives.... In one way, he was much like us. He definitely had a mind of/all his own. Which meant he was a bit (lot... :-) more difficult to work with/train. Bless his soul.....He deserves it.
If'n my memory serves me correctly, George Bush is not the only President (Bill Clinton for another) to do what seems to be "oppressing" turkeys of color. I've never seen any turkey pardoned other than a white one.
If a person was secure within their own self, why does/would color matter....
