I tend to be a moderate -- or more properly, a fiscal conservative and a civil rights liberal. I started working as a teenager, inspired by JFK and Martin Luther King, for civil rights, women's rights, ecology rights, and in later decades, for gay rights. As a woman fast approaching 60, I've seen the progress we've made -- but know just how much further we have to go.
I don't believe that problems can be solved just by throwing money at them, however. That money needs to be directed correctly, and mostly into education.

Jacqualyn commented on the petition |I've been a Brownie, a Girl Scout, a Curved Bar, and a supporter of the Girl Scouts for more than 50 years. As much as I love supporting the organization, it seems strangely contradictory to me that the Girl Scouts, once made aware of the problem, have not taken immediate steps to rectify this problem. Do you not have badges for environmental work? Didn't you come out at the very beginning of the recycling programs and other Green programs? This is something that should be done URGENTLY and with dispatch before the next time cookies are being sold. Believe me, I will be looking, and if they are still being made with palm oil, I will NOT BUY.
