Here's a great article on this topic, just posted today: http://www.cleanergreenerchina.com/2009/02/25/farm-visit-kiwing-foods/
I think that most of the organic farms here in China are led by entrepreneurs rather than big companies. Certifications, trust, and prices are always huge issues, and these are different priorities to different people. My friend Rich Brubaker has written quite a bit about this on his blog Cleaner Greener China: http://www.cleanergreenerchina.com/?s=organic

I see "Green Food" labels on all sorts of products, including eggs and beer. I'm not sure what it means or what sort of standards are behind it. However, I do think it's a step in the right direction.
This is hilarious! Thanks for sharing it.
I think the tension between heart and results is something that we in the social sector all struggle with. A wise family friend, a high-level executive at a big non-profit, who used to be a CEO of several Silicon Valley start-ups, gave me some interesting advice about this. She said that startups look for quarterly results and quick impact, and if things aren't going well they can switch gears right away. She contrasted that with her experience in non-profits, which have more stakeholders, and therefore require more consensus-building in decision-making. Also, impact for non-profits tends to be more long-term, more difficult to quantify.
Hi Nathaniel,
I totally agree with you! Obama's personal history as an activist and commitment to social entrepreneurship has already done so much to inspire the American people to take action. I am especially excited to learn about his advisors in this space. I wrote about one such advisor, Nancy Barry, here on the Wokai Adventures blog: http://wokai.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/12/obama-microfinance-and-china.html
Happy New Year, and keep up the good work in 2009!

This is by far my favorite online video! I agree with you that the music really ties the video together and creates drama to keep viewers involved.
We at Wokai are working on a video in a similar style to raise awareness about microfinance in China. Here's the link: http://wokai.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/07/what-is-the-wokai-effect.html
