Charles, I am one of your greatest fans. I just want to say this piece is one of your best.
The key phrase is in the last paragraph: "from your heart." Peace and peacemaking are matters of the heart, not the head. It is not a matter of reading the right book as Jubali Jubani seems to think. It is a matter of finding the Oneness that already and always exists within each heart and living that truth. You have expressed eloquently and succinctly the essence of distinction between peacemaking and politics. I salute you for your important contribution to this vital subject.Shalom = Salaam = Shanti, Lewis
I felt giving Rick Warren a place of honor at the Inauguration was a slap in the face. I gave time and money to the Obama campaign and I feel betrayed. I understand the concept of reaching out to those who disagree with me, but not now and not here. I do not care about gay marching bands and neither, I suspect, do most people. I care about the symbolism of a bigot given a prominent seat at Obama's table while those who actually worked for and elected him are still waiting for substantive Change We Can Believe In.
I get emails from the Obama Transition Team every day asking me for money (!). I send them back with the note ASK RICK WARREN FOR MONEY in the subject line. The black armband is a good idea.
I am surprised at the depth of my feeling on this issue. It mirrors my elation when Obama was elected. Michael Jones is right: it's like a roller coaster.
