    (n) phobia, phobic disorder, phobic neurosis (an anxiety disorder characterized by extreme and irrational fear of simple things or social situations) "phobic disorder is a general term for all phobias." (http://wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=phobia).

That's the definition of phobia. I swear it is a campaign that homosexuals and their sympathizers are on to suggest that heterosexuals are "fearful" of homosexuals. I doubt that, when a mob attacks a group of queers, I doubt that is or can be considered "fear." When one fears a thing, all attempts are made to avoid that thing. Heterosexuals are just disgusted overall by the concept of homosexuality. Something abnormal is usually aversive to human beings - its human nature, no research is needed to support that claim. As human beings we can all relate to that. Not because what you practice is considered normal in your mind it is or should be automatically so considered by everyone else. I don't have a problem with "don't ask don't tell," it was a thoughtful move on Bill Clinton's part to protect the homosexuals in the armed forces that believe they must serve their country - a right they do have. Personally, the concept of being in the same sleeping quarters with a homosexual is a little repulsive and I'm sure not all homosexuals would want to flaunt their sexual orientation in such a place for fear of "homophobes" acting in a negative manner toward them. It protects their asses and they should be appreciative of the esteemed Bill Clinton for doing that. You give an inch, they want a yard, Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth.

Reverend Boony: What a mix huh, A Gay Religious Intolerant, heterophobic racist? Rev. Boony why are your posts so steeped in hatred? Obama is a dictator, straight people are "homo-haters" with their panties on fire,  Jamaicans are liars involved in a conspiracy to wipe out all LGBTQ people and leading the charge is the police and people who believe in a God are "bible-thumping ignorami" Prosecuters are "born-lobotomised" etc. Exercise some tolerance and acceptance of alternative lifestyles/choices that are not in line with yours for once.

Rev. Boony, stop being a loony and the same mouth that you are using to preach tolerance you use it to speak intolerance of someone's religious orientation/choice? No wonder there is intolerance in the world (talk about Irony). No more hateful, disrespectful "deiophobic" comments please and practice what you preach.

Reverend Boony: How would you like being called Rev. Queer? I at no point in my post say anything rude or demeaning to anyone - I merely defended a view I have, a right that all human beings in the Free World have. Not because I do not condone a Gay lifestyle I am automatically "homophobic," neither am I a "homohater" by stating that this is article is a false representation of what Jamaica is. I'm sure (like I said before) the paragons of Morality like the US and UK have higher per capita hate crimes than Jamaica. So while you people have your heads up your respective asses and conveniently ignoring the problems closer to home and taking on other people's supposed problems deal with yours. I guess as we in Jamaica say "a we yuh have strength fah."

I am in no way advocating violence against gay people. I was merely pointing out how biased and irresponsible the author is in claiming "the police won’t protect Jamaica’s LGBTQ citizens from mob-led murders and violence; they instead incite the country's homophobic frenzy by either being present and inactive during these assaults or by following and watching them all the time." This statement IS A LIE!!! I am Jamaican and I KNOW what goes on in my country!

Tyr Luminos: I also would like to think that a University degree and the experience of growing up Jamaican has given me sufficient knowledge and the moral authority to speak on this issue more authoritatively than even the author whom I think is abusing her position as a "woman of the cloth" to breed a sort of disgust/hatred in the minds of the ignorant towards Jamaicans. I have gay friends. I do believe all human beings do deserve equality and justice. I however do not think that in order to cure hate it should be transferred/displaced. Hate should be wiped out and painting a picture that is nothing like it is is an irresponsible way to address the issue, it will certainly cause those wronged to respond with even more fire and fervour and that is exactly what we do not want!

On the issue of the majority being against it; Jamaicans in general are against it homosexuality, but not all of us will "boom bye-bye," the same thing I believe is applicable to most democratic countries on earth. I'm sure if I were given figures and fact regarding homophobic incidences around the world, the paragons of moral superiority such as the US and UK will possibly rank higher than the country that subscribes to the "one love" policy.

Jamaica is in general violent (something I am not proud of), the incidences of violence towards gay people are rare compared to those that occur on a day-to-day basis but they exist nonetheless. Let's focus on the bigger picture that if examined will show that removing all forms of violence against gays will have a negligible impact on violence here. But apparently, the big picture is not what gets people like Rev. Monroe noticed or it may be too much of a challenge for them to take on. Wish I had my own spot on change.org to get my point across, maybe a lot more light would be shed on this issue.

This is an irresponsible and biased article (my comment I doubt will be printed)! It is an irresponsible thing to suggest that all Jamaicans are staunch advocates of violence towards LGBTQ people, I am even more offended and disguted by the part that suggests that the police do not protect the rights of these people in Jamaica. The hard-working police do not "incite" and are not "inactive" in cases of violence towards gays. How many times have the police had to step in and save the hides of Gays engaging in lewd sexual acts (in public) that are offensive to most Jamaicans? And since the majority counts in a democratic country like Jamaica, I guess logic dictates that homosexuality should not be accepted since a vast majoprity of Jamaicans are against it.

That is an irresposible and insulting thing to say and I urge you to recant those statements and a formal letter of apology should be sent to the Jamaica Constabulary. As a website that advocates tolerance, it is impossible to achieve it by inciting or casting a sense of disrespect of one group in the advancement of the "rights" of another. If that is the case as I'm seeing here then you will be taking one step forward and two steps back!
