MACKENZIES ANIMAL SANCTUARY

Mission

Our Mission: To find loving homes for abused, abandoned and neglected dogs. To spay/neuter our rescued dogs of age to stop the cycle of unwanted litters. Assist in public education for the betterment of our local animal community. Maintain the highest standards of care for the animals, including veterinary care, housing, love, tenderness and compassion all while keeping a high standard of excellence and professionalism.

Programs

Currently we are raising funds for our On-Site Vet Clinic Program. - This facility expansions will not only serve Mackenzie’s resident dogs, but also serve local pet owners by offering affordable spay/neuter services to the public, all for the betterment of our local animal community.

Obedience Training Program: Mackenzie’s feels it’s very important for a dog to start basic obedience as soon as they come to the Sanctuary.  We work very hard with positive-reinforcement training only, and have seen a significant difference in their behavior, adoptability & overall well-being.

Humane Education Program:  Mackenzie's is currently working with local schools to have a Humane Education section added to their curriculums.  We hope this program will make a long-lasting impact on the lives of this young generation.

Grooming Program: A professional groomer comes out on a regular basis to bath and groom all our dogs on a rotational schedule, with focus on our longer haired dogs and those with skin conditions.

Volunteer Program: We are always looking for help from volunteers.  We have a great program that requires one-on-one or small group training sessions that will leave you feeling very comfortable when it's time for you to work alone with our rescue dogs. If direct contact with dogs is not for you, we have many other benifical activies that will help our dogs 'along the way'.

Enrichment Program: Recongized by The ASPCA
Rick Wiersum, Behavior Modification/Training Attendant at Mackenzie’s, put together the sanctuary’s canine enrichment program, focusing on the following goals:Improving the quality of life for the dogs. Helping the dogs present themselves better when potential adopters visit the kennels. Making efficient use of the sanctuary’s small staff, volunteer pool, and tight budget. With input from the Shannon Gramann, ASPCA Senior Administrator, Meet Your Match™ Resources and Research, Rick built a well-rounded enrichment program that includes a varied schedule of social, mental, and sensory stimulation and physical activity. To view complete details on this exciting new program please visit our website at www.mackenzies.info.

Pool Building Program:
This program was put in place for dogs that not only needed water therapy, but for our high energy dogs that need extra exercise, especially in the winter months.  We have a heated lap pool, wading pool, along with extra room to run & play.
The dogs just love it!

History

Who We Are: Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary was founded by the Azzar family in August of 1999, after the passing of their beloved dog Mac. We are a federally recognized 501(c)3
non-profit organization whose primary goal is to place homeless dogs into loving, lifelong homes. Mackenzie's is funded soley by private donations and fundraisers and does not receive any state, local or federal funding. Our major expenses are the result of the extensive medical expenses we provide for each dog in our care including de-worming, all vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, along with intensive medical procedures that some of our dogs need to have to maintain a happy healthier life.
