LAURAS HOUSE

Volunteer Recounts Success Story

Published January 28, 2008 @ 03:32PM PT

Yesterday I cleaned out and organized the toy shed...I volunteered to do it...hence the title... AND enjoyed the "before and after" glow...so to speak.

THEN, I dressed Jackie for court. OH, KATE! What a heartwarming experience. I found her a Jones of New York black blazer that my neighbor the AA captain donated, along with her shoes, nylons AND some black lined slacks and champagne colored satin blouse from another friend of mine. Jackie said she had never owned a suit before. Had never shopped anywhere except K Mart and Payless and mostly wore her mother-in-laws hand me downs...size 12. Jackie wears an 8. Then Jackie sat on the couch in her new attire and showed me exactly how she would seat herself in court and look straight ahead at the judge and not at her husband etc... She said that her husband is very into body language so she really concentrates on that, as not to upset him. wow....what a world.

Just wanted you to know that the idea we tossed around, being advocates for these women and ready for court, has came to fruition.
