Joy for Children - Uganda

PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN

Violence against children (VAC) undermines the full spectrum of health, education and development goals. It results in physical injury, emotional trauma, sexual exploitation poor educational outcomes and economic hardship for children. The negative consequences of the violence affect current realities of children as well as their potential. Above all, the violence is a blatant injustice and a gross violation of children’s rights.

What is becoming clear is that a proactive and catalyzing community based work is needed to win hearts and minds of individuals and respond to concerns of a wide range of children. The nature of this engagement will have to be diverse, participatory and based on persuading individuals that just relationships with children is in everyone’s interest.

At Joy for Children-Uganda, we do all that we can to protect children from violence. We organise walk in major towns to highlight the plight of children, we do community events packed with drama, film show and open discussion, including radio programs. We visits schools teaching educating childrena and teachers on the rights of children, we visit churches, mosques and government departments to ask them to include preventing against childrenin their programs, we write letters to the local media, and run crafted short messages on local FM stations.

We have done all this with the support of people like you. We also ask you to day, to give the best you have to prevent violence against children. We need your support now to make it possible to continue raising awareness on the rights of children and preventing violence.

On June 16, we will be commemorating the day of Africa Child, last year we held a number of activities on this day; we had a radio talk, a walk on streets of Kampala, ran messages on local fm stations. This year we want to do the same and more we need your help, we need financial support to organise all the events and pay for services. Decide to partner with us today and make a difference in the lives on many children.

Its important to protect children because they are the most vulnerable and disadvanted group in our society. They are always abused and their rights often violated, i therefore, call upon all the stakeholders to rise up to fight these vices.

Children are a precious gift from the Lord which has to be guided and help flowish into that purpose he created them for...
Nature and model them into what you will want them to be when you are long gone from earth...

    Pledge fulfilled May 10!

We must pledge to do all we can for the children, across the world.  Children are our future, and there are millions of children that are living in poverty, with no access to basic health care, no education, living in squalor, forced to do child labour and are subject to violence in the most abhorrent ways.

I pledge to do all I can for the children of our world.
16th June 2009, will be a very important day for the children of Africa.
I will forward this message on to whoever I can.
    SALLY D.
