Change.org Editor Job Description

*note: applications must be submitted by Friday, November 6*

We are seeking five full-time Editors to help lead Change.org's network of cause-based blogs.

If you have great writing and editing skills and are excited about the possibility of joining a small but rapidly growing team leading the movement to merge the worlds of media and activism, we want to hear from you.

Each Editor is responsible for helping to create and expand the editorial voice of four of Change.org's twenty cause-based blogs. For each blog they oversee, editors will:

  • Define the overall mission and editorial voice;
  • Identify and contract promising freelance writers;
  • Manage, mentor, and edit the writing of the 3-6 regular contributors we expect for each cause;
  • Write 2-3 brief daily blog posts covering important real-time news and commentary;
  • Oversee a social media and community building strategy.

As part of the Change.org team, each editor will also contribute to overall company strategy, our ongoing activist campaigns, and other initiatives and special projects such as our recently announced Changemakers network, which will bring the voices of prominent public officials, academics, artists, and nonprofit leaders to each of Change.org's blogs.

Skills: Aside from being able to deliver on the tasks listed above, we are looking for people who are extremely self-motivated, play well with others, and can communicate effectively in a remote-work environment. Years of experience matter less to us than excellence, and as such we will consider candidates ranging from promising recent grads to seasoned writers/editors.

Location and Compensation: Most of the existing Change.org team resides in San Francisco, New York, and Washington, DC, but the Editor positions can be held anywhere. The job is full-time and compensation is competitive.

Application Instructions: To apply, send a short email introducing yourself along with your resume to our Executive Editor, Judith Meskill, at apply@change.org by Friday, November 6. Also include a list of 2-6 of the causes we cover that you'd be most interested in overseeing and contributing to as editor. You do not need to be an expert in any of these causes, but should have some fluency in their concerns. The list of the cause-based blogs we currently run are below.

Animal Rights, Criminal Justice, Disabilities Rights, Environment, Education, Gay Rights, Global Poverty, Global Warming, Health Care, Homelessness, Human Rights, Human Trafficking, Immigration, Poverty in America, Race in America, Social Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Food, Women's Rights, War and Peace, Wildlife.

About Change.org: Change.org is an online media network for social change that raises awareness about major issues and empowers people to take action. We are a profitable social entrepreneurship venture started in 2006 by two former classmates from Stanford and currently work with more than 4,000 nonprofits.
