We live in a free country and are guaranteed several human rights as a result. Why then can the government tell me what milk I can drink? The thought is simply preposterous. I can freely worship, protect my property, and speak my mind among many other freedoms. Yet, if I try to obtain raw milk in my home state of West Virginia I am a criminal. The US government allows several known carcinogens into the food supply, it allows the use of dangerous chemicals in food production as well. People have the right to choose these foods or to choose healthier foods. Clearly the government is not always motivated by the best interest of its people, for if it was I would have consumer freedom and be able to obtain whatever milk I choose, legally. At the very least the legalization of raw milk will open several markets in the United States and allow private citizens to bring us out of economic hardship through their own entrepreneurship, not government bailouts. - by Janel Bedard
