Stop Animal Torture

Please vote to end all animal torture - including cats, dogs, seals, horses and any other living creature - tortured for profit. From the conditions in which they are kept to the way they are skinned, processed or dismembered and the slow way they die, it's unconscionable. Skinning alive is one of the highest forms of torture, cutting off legs from horses while they are alive also takes place, including stabbing repeatedly in to the spinal cord to paralyse them, animal vivisection and all other forms of torture.

The establishment of a Department for
Animals Affairs that includes individuals and groups knowledgeable about animals.
That would be the beginning to actually address this issue at all and bring about changes.
Product import/export laws example: Exclude from import any goods derived from animal torture. Stop Export of live animals to countries that torture.
Start a Kindness 4 Animals Culture:
Positive legislation Idea: Reward companies that start immediately pledging not to use animal ingredient such as fur, of any kind in their products.
Tax incentives:  for any company that previously used animal Ingredients but will refrain from doing so in the future and invest in non animals resources to replace animal resources.
Consumers right for clear labeling of products that contain animals ingredience. - Product labeling. Create a mark that/logo can be placed visibly on all product that has Zero animal ingredient content, Similar to the "Zero Fat" labeling. That will provide the consumer with easier identification of such goods. Promotion: Create an online database listing companies that produce Zero Animal Ingredients goods.
Promote the same standards internationally and do not import products produced by lesser standards.

I urge our new President to appoint someone in his new administration to deal with animal rights issues when engaged in diplomacy and trade with foreign countries that allow such barbaric practices to animals as in China and Korea www.animalsaviors.org/petition.html

I like the title and I like the beginning, but after that you lost me. Keep the goal simple. We can save one group of animals at a time, but we can't force veganism onto people who haven't conceded anything yet.

I totally agree. No More animal abuse, animals fur for fashion, animal products.  I agree that the world would be better of as vegans but  it has to be done in a way that provides and teaches alternatives to using animals for survival.  You have to strategically shift the consciousness of people....it is a grand challenge but totally possible.

  10. I agree with Luella....we have to keep this to one point at a time.  If we bombard the President with several issues in one idea the point of the idea will become fuzzy.  I don't believe the Vegan lifestyle should be included in this idea as many people will support the end of live skinning (which sickens me even to type that) but are not ready or willing to accept a strictly Vegan lifestyle.  Stick to the point at hand which is the practice of skinning animals alive is DISGUSTING, IMMORAL, INHUMANE, and just all around WRONG...and it MUST be stopped!

This is news to me.  I lived on a farm and any skinning was done after the animal was dead.  I knew a couple that raised foxes for fur sales.  They were electrocuted swiftly first.

Where does this happen?  Honestly, a live animal fighting for its life would DAMAGE the skin not vice versa.  Do you have an links to show this actually being done?

Animal abuse in all its forms is beyound awful. We all need to stop. We should start implementing laws in the U.S. and the fact that animals are skinned alive is criminal and those practising such act such be treating like the criminals that they are and prosecuted. We should protect all animals and have other places like China, Canada, India, Thailand, ect... follow our lead.

12-15-2008 I witnessed such a barbaric act in a neighborhood I was visiting just north of Reno, NV. I heard this horrible cry echoing across this area. I began to search where the sound was coming from.  From the street, I saw a small goat that was suspended by its hind leg while a man was slowly skinning the suffering animal.  I videoed it. It was horrible to watch and I could not do anything about it!!!!  Finally the man, who seemed to be enjoying his sociopathetic act, took a small caliber pistol and shot the goat in the head.  I saw a puff of smoke.   I noted a woman who was obviously the “owner” of the goat, in a fur coat standing on the porch of the house smoking while all this happened. This man threatened me when he saw I was videoing what he was doing.  I reported this incident to the Humane Society who said it was legal in that area. This obviously inhumane, barbaric practice must be STOP!

I fully agree with stop skinning animals alive, but it's ALREADY covered under the Animal Welfare Act. The United States *CANNOT* and *DOES NOT* have any legal jurisdiction what other countries do. So this law you are proposing is NOT ATTAINABLE.   I was hoping my promoting John Kerry's DOG FIGHTING BILL to be paramount since it IS an existing bill, and dog fighting happens to be an epidemic across America. If passed, there will be Federal charged filed even without interstate invovlement.  Rather, the Humane Society promotes a bill which is NOT attainable (you do not have enough USDA employees to cover puppy mills and there are upteen million puppy mills across America)-now I see THIS-an idea, which is again NOT ATTAINABLE. Because we have no say with Chinese law.  And you CANNOT pass a law that makes people vegan either (I'm vegan-but it's choice).

If you want to submit an idea-it must be an attainable goal.

THE FUR TRADE IS ONE THAT IS BASED ON *BLOODY VANITY*!

We must stop this barbaric practice of torturing animals.

Boycott all  fashion designers that use fur in their clothing line- whether it be a full length coat or some fur trim.

Fashion designers use fur only if there is a demand for it.

The  demand for it is largely based on selfish, status oriented and  egotistical customers that wear fur.

Only the heartless wear fur knowing how it is acquired.

The USA will take world leadership again only if we stand as an example of ethical humanity towards ALL animals.
There is no reason for any other country in the world to respect us as long as we keep using (torturing) animals.
Americans that buy, sell and use fur are stupid and ridiculous.
We endorse the torture that other countries inflict in animals every time we buy anything made in those countries.

This is bovine manure. When an animal is afraid there is an immediate rush of adrenalin. This causes the hair follicles to tighten and then release rapidly. THIS ruins the fur. Anyone with any knowledge at all - or any means of doing any research (not at PETA or other so called "animal rights" sites) can find out that the best way to get that perfect fur is by a swift kill when the animal is totally unaware of it's demise.

This has more to do with an agenda to end all animal ownership than any real occurence of the live flaying of animals. Did you know that the ones you see on youtube are staged by PETA? The "ethical" people that "saved" perfectly healthy dogs and cats and killed them in the van they drove away in, not ten minutes after picking them up. Then dumped their bodies in dumpsters. Lovely lot these "animal rights" people are.

Posted by Mary Allan on 12/21/2008 @ 10:55PM PT

  44. Janet Elizabeth Geren

    To Mary Allan:
Regarding your comment about PETA, that is an absolute lie and a means to justify the cruelty that apparently you condone for the sake of the big profiteers.  It sounds as though you are quite knowledgeable about skinning animals, something perhaps your are very comfortable  with.  Stop smearing PETA to justify your dirty deeds.  Using animals for our comfort, killing them and wearing them is wrong, no matter who you point the finger at.  Skinning animals is sick!  The human race should know better, we are supposed to evolve, unfortunately for all of us, many humans have de-evolved, (new word for the dictionary).

What goes around  will definitely come back in some way, somehow, someday.

  45. Ginette Callaway

Many of the animals that are tortured and skinned alive are ending up as consumable meat as well. Part of the reason they are tortured is that some cultures believe including Chinese culture, that the adrenalin released in to the blood, by the fear and pain the animals suffers, makes the meat tastier.
There is plenty of evidence out there even without PETA.

I have seen numerous under cover video. Very difficult to watch but without watching it you just don’t know the hard truth. One video I watched was someone hanging a dog alive upside down on his hind legs and then slowly beating him to death. The dogs screams were blood curdling!

So the skinning of live animals often has a dual purpose, fur and meat.

    Pain is good
    It makes us aware
    of danger
    impending death
impending loss, of limb or life
    Pain
    is bad
    it hurts
    unbearable... must be bearded

What must it be like to feel... unbearable pain... to want to escape
    but be tied...bound...upside down...held by a leg
    slammed in to the ground
    pain
    reminds it
It must flee... but it can't...
but it can't... must flee... but it can't

Saint Bernard dogs favorite meat & fur dogs in China
They are referred to as "Big Dumb Dogs"  One other reason why these dogs are favored is
because they are by nature very tame and calm and rarely bite, so they can be handled easier. Because they are rather laid back they put on meat quicker and have to be fed less. http://www.sossaintbernard.org/picture.htm Here is an example of how consume activism can make change Overstock.com Goes Fur-Free Visit Human Society for more on that http://www.hsus.org/furfree/fashion/retailers/overstock_2008.html
