Replace the South Lawn of the White House with an Organic Garden.

In a recent New York Times Magazine article, Michael Pollan, author of “In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto," suggested that the next "Farmer in Chief" replace the South Lawn of the White House with an organic garden. The move would be intended to a) reduce the unnecessary use of petrochemicals and overuse of water on maintaining the lawn b) provide food for regional food banks and c) "[build] on America’s agrarian past [while turning] it toward a more sustainable, sophisticated future."

I strongly encourage Mr. Obama to take Mr. Pollan's sound, thoughtful advice.

Paint the White House some other color than White..Rename it ?  The White House is symbolic of what is really wrong with our Country...It looks like a great big Plantation House!  Why don't the cameras pan left or right of the White House and show the Slums and Ghettoes of Washington DC.  I was shocked on my first visit to DC to see all the poverty just a few feet away from the Nation's capitol!

I'd add that we should all be encouraged to grow as much of our own food as possible, even if it is only one potted tomoto! We could add local co-ops and food sharing in neighborhoods where area is plentiful. From the White House to Every House!

A native plant butterfly garden would also be nice, and would encourage biodiversity.

There is an identical idea proposed already on this website, that currently has 754 votes.  That one is called "Victory Gardens 2.0", at:
    http://www.change.org/ideas/view/green_the_white_house

Don't know how to contact the organizers of this site to alert them to this redundancy, which weakens the voting for both ideas of course...
