Obama's going to bat for green recovery bill....

I cannot say it any better than the President of the United States, so here are some snippets from his opinion editorial in the Washington Post where he goes to bat for the recovery package: (2-5-09)

"Now is the time to save billions by making 2 million homes and 75 percent of federal buildings more energy-efficient, and to double our capacity to generate alternative sources of energy within three years.
"Now is the time to give our children every advantage they need to compete by upgrading 10,000 schools with state-of-the-art classrooms, libraries and labs; by training our teachers in math and science; and by bringing the dream of a college education within reach for millions of Americans.
And now is the time to create the jobs that remake America for the 21st century by rebuilding aging roads, bridges and levees; designing a smart electrical grid; and connecting every corner of the country to the information superhighway."
Repower America on Renewable Energy

1Sky, a collaborative national campaign to ensure bold federal action on climate change, wants to get the U.S. off of its fossil fuel diet and on to renewable energy. Repowering America – diminishing our use of dirty coal and oil and increasingly harnessing the power we need from renewable sources--is one of the 1Sky solutions. The 1Sky Solutions, which are based on the best science available, are: Create 5 million green jobs; cut carbon pollution at least 35% by 2020, and 80% by 2050; and stop all construction of new coal plants, and repower America on renewable energy.
The economic recovery package currently contains investments in energy efficiency, and in renewables, as well as investments in green jobs to increase energy efficiency so Americans use less fuel.
We want the Senate to keep the recovery package green.
About Make the Grid Green
Al Gore has made it his mission to get the U.S. electrical grid off of carbon-based fuel (coal, oil, etc.) in the next ten years. Make this the centerpiece of a national energy plan.
